Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris was born on 20 October 1964 in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howards University. Her parents split when she was seven and Kamala lived in Montreal.

 

 

Kamala Harris is the daughter of Donald J. Harris an economist and professor emeritus at Stanford University and Shyamala Gopalan, a breast cancer biologist and oncologist.

 

In 2014 she married lawyer Douglas Emhoff, who had two children from his first marriage.

Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. She’s a member of the democratic party.  Harris has served as the junior United States senator of California since 2017. As a senator, she has advocated for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling of cannabis.
