HABITAT:The Asian elephant is an ungulate who loves dense, shady forests where food and water are sufficient. It is present in Bangladesh, Burma, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam. It is important to know that India is home to 57% of Asian elephants.
DIET:Herbivore, the Asian elephant eats grass, plants, fruits, roots, tubers, bark and wood. He likes for example the soft wood and full of sap of the baobab.
REPRODUCTION:
They can reproduce throughout the year, there is no specific period of reproduction. After 20 to 21 months of gestation, the female gives birth to a single elephant or rarely to twins. The baby weighs 100 kg at birth. Asian elephants have a life expectancy of 60 to 70 years.
