The whale shark is classified in danger of extinction because it is the target of fishermen.
It can measure 20 meters long, for a mass of 34 tons ,
it is considered to be the largest fish currently living on Earth.
However, its observable size is in practice generally between 4 and 14 meters. It moves quite slowly and is harmless to humans. It feeds mainly on plankton, algae and microscopic animals. Its lifespan is estimated between 100 and 150 years.
